Effective before-and-after photos start with proper model preparation. This section will guide you through the necessary steps to ensure your model’s skin is ready for photography, and that the process is ethical and professional.

1. Informed Consent and Model Privacy:

  • Obtaining Informed Consent:
    • Explain the purpose of the photos and how they will be used in your TSG case study.
    • Ensure the model understands the competition guidelines and photo requirements.
    • Obtain the completed model consent from the model before taking any photos.
  • Maintaining Model Privacy:
    • Protect the model’s privacy, if required, by securely storing photos and consent forms.
    • Use initials or a code to identify models in your files, rather than full names.
    • Be mindful of where photos are taken and who has access to them.

2. Preparing the Model’s Skin:

  • Clean Skin:
    • Ensure the model’s skin is thoroughly cleansed and free of makeup, oils, or any other products.
    • Use a gentle cleanser suitable for the model’s skin type.
    • Explain to the model that they should arrive with clean skin.
  • Makeup-Free:
    • Emphasize the importance of the model being completely makeup-free for both before and after photos.
    • This allows for accurate representation of the skin’s condition.
  • Pre-Photo Instructions:
    • Explain to the model that they should not use any new skincare products, or treatments leading up to the day of photos. This will ensure that the skin shown is the true skin condition.

3. Consistent Posing and Facial Expressions:

  • Standardized Posing:
    • Instruct the model to maintain a consistent pose for all photos.
    • Use visual cues or markers to ensure consistent positioning.
    • Explain that they will need to hold the same pose for the before and after photos.
  • Neutral Facial Expressions:
    • Ask the model to maintain a neutral facial expression to avoid distorting skin features.
    • Avoid smiling, frowning, or other expressions that can alter the appearance of wrinkles or skin texture.
  • Head Position:
    • Explain the importance of keeping the head in the same position for all photos.
    • Any tilting of the head can alter the appearance of the skin.
  •

By following these model preparation guidelines, you’ll ensure your photos accurately represent your work and meet the ethical standards of the TSG competition.”
